Arriving on the scene in the fall of 1966 in the form of the Chevrolet Camaro, the new Z/28 was General Motor's answer to the 1964-1/2 Ford Mustang! The car was styled to emulate the long hood/short deck "ponycar" styling originated by the Mustang. The 1967 Chevy Camaro was offered with a variety of engines; from the economical six-cylinder to the ground-pounding 396 big block. In mid-year '67 the Z28 option was released. The Z28 was designed for competition in the SCCA Trans-Am Series, and to legalize the engine to meet the rules and regulations, Chevrolet built a total of 602 of these special cars for sale to the public!
